Cathy, the first of five children belonging to Ted and Gladys Smith, grew up making things with her family. Following her marriage to Dick in 1972, between 1974 and 1986 she brought six children into the world, each of whom - in their own way - carries on her legacy in the arts.

Throughout her life she struggled to serve her Creator and love his people. Clothes, dolls, papercuts, liturgical banners, embroidery, poems and songs - in all these she set out to promote faith in God by interpreting and embellishing his works.

Her illness (lasting about a year), though incomprehensible, was the continuation of a long battle for beauty, obedience to the Gospel and fellowship with him who is, now and forever, the Lord and Giver of life.
